Sorry that it's taking so long! I'm counting up the points and registering them individually. While this shouldn't take as long as it should, I also have midterms coming up. After the 17th and my time frees up, I should be able to pick a winner though

Found an American author that writes historical romances set in ancient China. THANK GOD!!!!! Her style is exactly what I need for this story. It's even set in the Tang dynasty!

I've been reading her "The Dragon and the Pearl" and the way she describes the hero and heroine is almost how I imagine Ivan and Yao's interactions. I am taking everything I can out of that book and adding it to my resources!!!

Currently working on developing a RoChu dating visual novel game. Here's the premise of the story:
In a world similar to ours, the Empire of Xiang'An have dominated most of the East and North. The kingdom known as Yveiva has been under it's rule for well over 150 years, but the people of Yveiva held no bitterness towards their overlords. The Empire of Xiang'An placed no hard rule and asked very little of them. At the very fringe of the Empire, most lived their lives forgetting Yveiva had lost its sovereignty long ago...until a letter came from the capital. It was a missive directly from the Emperor, requesting the Kingdom of Yveiva to send him a tribute, a woman to enter his seraglio. After much debate, it was decided a daughter from a minor prince would be sent- Yekatrina, Ivan's beloved sister.

Worried for her safety, Ivan traveled with her, in hopes of seeing her safely married before journeying back home. Months turned into years and after traveling thousands of miles on the orders of an Emperor they never met, they finally reached the capital and found a horrifying truth.

For years, the Emperor forced woman to enter his harem to only later execute them the next day. It came to the point where Xiang'An had no more women of high birth to offer him. So, they reached further and further out into the empire for new sacrifices until they reached the very borders of Yveiva.

Furious and unable to leave his sister to die, Ivan defies the Emperor and challenges him. Yao, bored and tired of the palace life, found amusement in Ivan's defiance. As a distraction to the tedious court, he agrees to free Ivan and his sister if he can solve 5 riddles. Should Ivan fail at any point, then it's off with both their heads.

Ivan uses his wits to help him solve the riddles and navigate the cesspit of Xiang'An court, but the more he gets to know the palace residents, the more he's dragged down by their secrets until he could no longer tell which was the worst fate: dying by Yao's hand or leaving his side.

Thank you for everyone who liked "Lover's Touch" for being patient with me. When I first started writing it, I really just did it as a joke and when the crack got out of hand, I had to stop and regroup. It took 4 years, but at least it's done now 8D

However, with "Lover's Touch"  finally complete, I'm going to focus on making a RoChu visual novel dating game. It may take a couple of months or even a couple of years, but until I finish it, there won't be anymore fanfics from me. I am disgustingly determined to make this game and won't stop until it becomes a reality!

You can follow my progress- or more correctly my random ramblings- of the game here: plottingoverhere.tumblr.com/

I will still be around dA and tumblr. Just not writing anymore RoChu fanfic.

Wish me luck! Hopefully by the time I come back, it'll be because an English RoChu game was successfully made 8D

I wrote this a while back, but I want to keep it on dA, because my tumblr is a mess...

Why do people write China to be a tsundere?

3chocolatechipcookiesplease:

At least in a lot of Rochu fics he's all tsun-y and it's weird because its not how his character is. And it's the same thing with him looking like a girl. When did this come about? Just because he has long hair doesn't mean he looks like a woman. It's kinda annoying, either write the character cannon or put OOC in you fic summary.

   What do you guys think?

I think the tsundere part came from the fact that in East Asian culture, it's distasteful and down right uncultured to be openly affectionate with your lover.

I imagine Yao to be more traditional in his view on love, considering the fact that Western influence only started within the last 70 years. In China, it's more about your actions than with words that you tell someone you like them. Hell, you don't even say, "I love you" in Chinese. It's too direct and overly intimate. Instead of saying "Wo ai ni", it's more likely Chinese people say, "Wo xihuan ni" (I like you) and even then, that's not supposed to be said too often or it cheapens the meaning.

So for me, when I write RoChu fanfiction, I think other nations view Yao as a cold and unfeeling person because he doesn't express his affections openly unlike Ivan. They often think the relationships one-sided or Ivan is the one who is more in love with Yao. But behind closed doors, Yao is just as affectionate, but it's a subtle thing like brushing aside a stray hair so he could touch Ivan or adjusting Ivan's scarf because he doesn't want Ivan to catch a cold, etc.

It's due to Yao being used to the Asian way of courtship, (i.e. subtlety, undertones, and implied meanings) he's often flustered when Ivan bursts out his feelings without holding anything back. He's not used to people shouting out, "I love you" to him and so he responds by hiding his embarrassment with a tough exterior.

At least that's how I interpret Yao's tsundere tendencies.

At the same time, I also don't interpret Ivan as a completely open person, either, who exclaims his love. Russians are actually quite conservative people as well, perhaps even to the same degree as Asians. Public displays of affection are only tolerated if it was treated with discretion. However, among those they considered close friends or intimate companions, they converse very closely with each other and often touch each other during the conversation.

So I interpret Ivan's motives for exclaiming his love for Yao, not because he enjoys public display of affection, but because he likes breaking apart Yao's expressionless facade and watch Yao's face blush from embarrassment.

EDIT:

Then again, I sometimes write it where Yao knows what's up and just smiles slyly as he flirts with Ivan right back. For me, it just depends on my mood on how Yao and Ivan handle PDA.
